WELLINGTON WOMEN WALK FOR PEACE 2013
We all hope for Peace. This Peace Walk and Fundraising Event for Women was organised to raise awareness of our interconnectedness and interdependence in our hope and work towards the attainment of peace. We invite all women from all walks of life, from different religions and diverse beliefs, from different ethnicities and cultures to join the Walk.
Walk to support the protest against violence on women and children.
Walk to support protest against wars.
Walk to support empowerment of women.
We hear statements that the world is becoming increasingly interconnected. Women’s nurturing role is essential for creating and maintaining an environment of peace at home and their extended communities. We need to move forward together to extend our responsibility to one another thus extending our community to create an environment where peace is possible.
We hope that this walk will be the start of each woman’s participation, advocacy, immersion and support towards the Culture of Peace.
“We, Women of Wellington, walk together at this moment to declare our support and to work in bringing a bright, equal, safe and rewarding future for women and girls nationally and internationally, in our generation and to future generations. We aim to join together to bring forth a platform of respect, women’s rights, economic justice, a non-violent society and a culture of peace.
This Event, Wellington Women Walk for Peace (WWW4PEACE) is a call on women to rededicate their commitment to the 1995 UN Statement on Women’s Contribution to the Culture of Peace. There are numerous women’s organizations presently active in Wellington contributing to the Culture of Peace. Walking and Celebrating together on this day will build an awareness of the interconnectedness and interdependence in our work for peace.
The organizers invite all women from all walks of life, from different religions or diverse beliefs, and from different ethnicities and cultures to walk. Although this walk is being organized by women for women, all Wellingtonians are invited to the Walk.
Major supporters of this walk includes: The Human Rights Commission, Wellington City Council, National Council of Women New Zealand, Filipino Artist in New Zealand, Inc, Society for Southeast Asian Communities, Centre of Applied Cross- Cultural Research, Victoria University students and staff, Shakti Wellington, Soka Gakki International, and the Peace Movement Aotearoa.”
