Today in Philippine History

Rosa Sevilla de Alvero, educator, writer and a notable suffragist in Asia, was born in Tondo Manila. She became a teacher after graduating as “maestra superior” at Assumption College. She fought and lobbied for women suffrage.

Her campaign for the right of Philippine women to vote and to be voted in an elective office came into fruition when the right for suffrage was granted in April 1937.
