TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY
Act No. 2874 or the Public Land Law of 1919 was approved by Governor-General Francis Burton Harrison. It provided that any citizen of the Philippine Islands or of the United States, over 18 years of age or the head of a family, who did not already own more than 24 hectares of land, might enter a homestead not to exceed 24 hectares in area.
Such citizens might also purchase up to 100 hectares of public land in case of individuals and up to 1024 in the case of corporations, 61% of the capital stock of which, however, had to be owned by citizens of the Philippine Islands or the United States.
