TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY
The First Philippine Republic was inaugurated in Malolos, Bulacan. General Emilio Aguinaldo became the First President of the republic which was also known as the Malolos Republic. Preceding this event is the approval of the Malolos Constitution by the Malolos congress in January 20. The constitution was sanctioned by Aguinaldo on January 21 and promulgated on January 22.
The Malolos Republic was, however, short lived as Aguinaldo was captured by the American forces on March 23, 1901 effectively dissolving it.
