TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY:
Miss Universe 1974, the 23rd edition of the pageant, was held in Manila, Philippines at the Folk Arts Theater. The pageant was hosted by Bob Barker and Helen O’Connell. It was the first time an Asian country hosted the Miss Universe pageant. The pageant was fully sponsored by the Philippine government.
Sixty-four candidates competed, with Liberia and Senegal debuting in the pageant. Amparo Muñoz from Spain, everyone’s favourite, was crowned Miss Universe 1974. She was crowned by then outgoing Miss Universe Margarita Moran of the Philippines.
