TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY:
Then – United States President George W. Bush arrived in Manila for a brief state visit amidst tight security measures and concern for a terrorist attack. Bush arrived in the Philippines via Air Force One and was first greeted by then – Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr. and then – US Ambassador to the Philippines Francis Ricciardone.
Bush was with First Lady Laura Bush, then – US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other members of Bush’ staff. Bush’ visit went on to have a meeting with then – President Arroyo and her staff, a speech in the congress and a formal state dinner before flying to Thailand. The scheduled visit was to last for a mere 8 hours.Anti- US protesters were outside the Congress Building where Bush delivered his speech.
