Today in Philippine History
American paratroopers landed on Corregidor during World War II, in a campaign to liberate the Philippines. This was later dubbed as the Battle of Bataan.
The US proceeded to recapture the island of Corregidor and nearly 6,000 Japanese soldiers leapt to their death off a ridge rather than face capture and dishonor. This invasion marked the redemption of the Americans and Filipinos who surrendered and killed almost three years earlier to what is now infamously called the “Death March”.
