TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY
The Professional Regulations Commision became operational with the assumption into office of the first set of appointed Commissioners and Associate Commissioners.
The PRC was first created as a national government agency by Presidential Decree (P.D.) No. 223 dated June 22, 1973, signed by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos. It was previously called the Office of the Boards of Examiners created by Republic Act No. 546 on June 17, 1950, under the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
The PRC was placed under the Office of the President for general supervision and coordination. The Implementing Rules and Regulations of P.D. No. 223 was promulgated on December 9, 1974. Under P.D. 223, professional regulation was standardized for the thirty-three (33) professions then under the PRC.
