GIVE A LITTLE: Support for Yakeza
A BUFFET BREAKFAST FOR A CAUSE
by Gregguil Besa
Aimed at stirring awareness on the plight of Yakeza Mae Sarona, a cancer patient, a buffet breakfast was organized on Monday, 8 February 2016 at the One80 Restaurant of the Copthorne Hotel in Oriental Bay, Wellington. Such occasion was also intended to raise funds which would be donated to the Give a Little Account for Yakeza of Yakeza.
Though a number of attendees did not know one another, they shared a common cause which was to show support, in their own little and humble way, to the cancer victim. Amongst those who attended was Mr Chris Bishop, a Member of Parliament List in Lower Hutt.
On her impromptu speech, YakGeza expressed her appreciation to all who attended the breakfast. Though she has no relatives here in New Zealand, she is very grateful to all of those who have had helped her, in a number of ways, while she is undergoing a series of cancer treatment.
Yakeza, a registered nurse both in the Philippines and New Zealand, arrived in this country on 12 May 2015 with a big dream of making “NewZealand a second home”. Yet, just after two months of her employment at the Wellington Regional Hospital, she was diagnosed of Acute Myeloid Leukemia on 23 December 2015.
The breakfast was organized by Gregguil Besa, along with his friends at the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) Congregation in Wellington.
For those who would like to help Yakeza as she continues waging a fierce battle against cancer, you may donate to her Give a Little Account for Yakeza.
