DID YOU KNOW? Lorde is a popular and multi-awarded singer-songwriter from New Zealand.
Born on November 7, 1996 in Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand as Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, she is one of the youngest Kiwi singer-songwriter to ever receive multiple awards from major award-giving bodies.
In her young singing career, she has so far collected: four New Zealand Music Awards at the 2013 ceremony – for her single “Royals”, and earned the New Zealand APRA Silver Scroll Awards in 2013. At the 2014 Grammy Awards, Lorde received two Grammy Awards for her single “Royals” in the categories Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year. She has also won two Billboard Music Awards, one MTV Video Music Award and three World Music Awards.
In November 2013, at 17 years old, Lorde was included in TIME’s list of the most influential teenagers in the world. She is also included in Forbes “30 Under 30 List of Young People Who Are Changing Our World” in January 2014. She is the youngest individual to be featured on such list.
In October 2014, she made it to the list of “The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014” by TIME Magazine. Billboard also named Lorde as “your new alt-rock heroine” in their 6 September 2013 cover story.
She is currently working on her 2nd album.
