FUNDRAISING FOR SANTANA
Rallying Behind Team Santana
On the pool everyday practicing, this 14 year old is not your average athlete. She is the youngest daughter of Phil Chapman who was married to our kababayan, Liza Sobrepena. Born profoundly deaf, Santana is only able to hear through an implant which she can’t wear while swimming. Her coach, former Olympian John Winter, had to give her one-on-one sessions just to make sure that she is able keep up on training.
Swimming competitively for only a year, she is able to qualify for the 22nd Deaflympics this coming July 2013 which will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria. She is able to qualify in 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 50 meter butterfly.
She’s done all the hard work in the pool. We are now asking for your help to rally behind her by supporting the fundraising efforts to bring her to Bulgaria.
