TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY:

The treaty of Manila was ratified by the Congress of the Philippines. The treaty which is formally the Treaty of General and Protocol is a treaty of general relations signed on 4 July 1946 in Manila, capital of the Philippines.

Parties to the treaty were the governments of the United States and the Republic of the Philippines. The United States granted the Philippines independence, and the treaty provided for the recognition of that independence.
