TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

A Filipino soldier was killed by an American private for simply crossing the San Juan bridge in Manila triggering a new war for independence, this time from a former ally. In June of the same year, the First Philippine republic declared war against the Americans. This war lasted for 3 years ending in 1902.

The war left 4200 American and 20000 Filipino combatants dead. More than 20000 civilians perished from this war.
